The country is very easy to reach with flights from New York, Atlanta or Miami to Windhoek through Cape Town or Johannesburg -- and you really should allow a couple of days to see the wonders of South Africa if possible.

following is a report from one of our safari clients ....... It about tells the story .....:::::::::
My wife and I arrived in Windhoek airport on time and were met by Michael
Fechter's wife, Christine. We had booked a Tented safari 3 hours north
of Windhoek, and Michael was getting everything ready. We cleared customs
without any problems, and 3 hours later we were unpacking at camp. Michael
had selected a beautiful spot on one of his concessions just south of the
Waterberg Plateau. This area was about 25,000 acres, and had abundant
kudu, gemsbuck, steenbuck, hartebeest, wildebeest, etc. We soon settled
in with sundowners, great food, and big plans for the next weeks' hunt.
Perhaps the best feature of the camp was a "no roof" bathroom, with
shower, sink, and comode. You could relax there after dark, and
enjoy the Southern Cross and the milky way.
The next morning we were up at 6, and after coffee we were
off to sight in, and look for game. We made several stalks on
gemsbuck, but without getting close enough for a shot. I had brought
a big bore rifle which had a practical limit of about 125 yards.
The second day just at dusk, Michael saw a large lone kudu crossing
a field about 300 yards away. He held the shooting sticks to
his forehead as though they were gemsbuck horns. He then bent
over, told me to hold on to his belt, and get in step. We took
off after the kudu across an open field. To the kudu we had the silouette
of a gemsbuck. We walked fast, and soon were within 75 yards of the
kudu. We knelt down, and Michael "glassed" the kudu bull to be sure
of his horns, and to be sure there was no other animal behind him.
Through the scope, I could just see the chest, and fired. The
kudu ran about 100 yards before going down. It was a beautiful
52" animal. That night, and next morning we enjoyed one of the
greatest meals, kudu liver.
In all, I took 5 animals, but the kudu was most memorable.
We were treated "first class", the meals were all excellent, and my
wife had a great time. She spent a couple afternoons in a blind
watching dozens of game animals graze, and accompanied us hunting on
the afternoon we took a Wildebeest. We also spent two nights at
Michael's hunting lodge, wich is a 45 minute drive from Windhoek.
At that location, the accomodation is 5 star, and there is even more
game than in the northern concession. All in all, we had
a wonderful hunt, made a couple of great friends, and saw another
part of the world that defies description. I would recommend Auas Safaris
and the booking agency Ventures Outdoors without reservation, confident
that anyone's needs will be professionally met.
